LDS Church Pres. Monson re-dedicates Boise Temple

BOISE, Idaho ? The LDS temple in Boise Idaho was re-dedicated on Sun. Nov. 18. Due to high use, the Church decided to renovate and expand the temple in Southern Idaho, something that has happened once before due to the temple's popularity.

It closed down in July of 2011 for a 17-month refurbishment. The interior got reinforced walls and a sprinkler system, among other improvements. The grounds were entirely re-landscaped, and a new maintenance and engineering building was added, coming in at roughly 5,000 square feet.

The temple is one of only three that have six spires on it, the others being the temples in Salt Lake City and Washington D.C.

When it was first opened in 1982, almost 130,000 people toured the building, almost double the expected number. It was dedicated in a spectacular 24 sessions, more than any other temple in history with the exception of Salt Lake City.

President Thomas S. Monson re-dedicated the temple Sunday in three sessions.

A cultural celebration was held Saturday where hundreds of local youth performed an extended dance and song routine. Manson also addressed those in attendance. They shouted praise and Monson responded with thumbs up and salutes.

"(The Boise Temple) shines as a beacon of righteousness to all who will follow it's light. We treasure that light," Monson said.

He also praised those who performed and said he was an advocate for such large events and celebrations, saying they bring people together.
