Stanford University Payroll has a challenging opportunity for a Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist will work as part of a team responsible for accurate, compliant entry of pay-related data and for providing high quality customer service in support of running payroll for all 20,000 University employees.
Specific duties include:

  • Review and entry of all incoming payment requests, including termination and tax forms, with the goal of controlling University funds, maintaining compliance with federal and state laws, and providing accurate pay to all employees.
  • Responding to customer service inquiries, ranging from routine to complex, from employees and administrators regarding pay.
  • Applying knowledge of University policy and administrative systems to provide guidance to customers with non-routine requests, to research pay-related errors, and to recommend procedure changes or provide individual training.
  • Maintaining detailed desk procedures to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Ensuring service delivery is accurate, timely, and aligned with service level agreements.
  • Collaborating with team members to continuously improve payroll processing procedures to deliver a high-quality, value-added service to our customers.
  • Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible, and able to work effectively and efficiently in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, with high attention to detail and recognition of time-sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, sound judgment, and sensitivity to handling of confidential information.
  • Strong customer-oriented approach to managing work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
  • An Associate's Degree in Accounting or a related field, plus at least 3 years experience working with payroll, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
